MitarbeiterInnen und Studierende der Uni Graz engagieren sich für Flüchtlinge

Angesichts der dramatischen Flüchtlingssituation der vergangenen Tage und Woche hat es sich die Karl-Franzens-Universität zur Aufgabe gemacht, anerkannte Flüchtlinge und AsylwerberInnen bestmöglich bei ihrer Integration in Österreich zu unterstützen und ihnen Zugang zu Bildung zu ermöglichen. Ein erstes Sofortmaßnahmen-Paket unter der Koordination von Vizerektor Dr. Peter Riedler wurde am 17. September zeitgleich mit der MORE-Initiative der uniko präsentiert. "Was die Uni Graz sofort leisten kann und bereits tut, ist, Betroffenen ein vereinfachtes Zulassungsverfahren sowie Angebote für Deutsch-Sprachkurse zu ermöglichen", erklärt Vizerektor Riedler. Auch ein Uni Graz-Spendenkonto für Flüchtlingshilfe wurde bereits eingerichtet - das Geld wird für die Umsetzung und Weiterentwicklung des Maßnahmenpakets verwendet. >> mehr Informationen

In einem weiteren Schritt werden rechtliche Beratungsleistungen, Begleitung durch den studentischen Alltag sowie an die Bedarfe angepasste Bildungsangebote entwickelt, die auf eine langfristige Unterstützung von Flüchtlingen und AsylwerberInnen abzielen. Dazu entwerfen ExpertInnen der Uni Graz aus verschiedensten Bereichen, wie etwa Interkulturelle Kommunikation, Mediation und Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache, gemeinsam Konzepte zur Sprach-, Lern- und Integrationsförderung. 

Engagierte MitarbeiterInnen und Studierende der Uni Graz helfen aber schon jetzt - mit eigenen Initiativen, die allesamt Flüchtlingen und AsylwerberInnen zugutekommen, zum Beispiel:

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
