Wie wird der Mensch zum Zahlengenie?

Was tut sich im Gehirn, wenn der Mensch mathematisiert? Roland Grabner versucht das zu verstehen

Begabungsunterschiede und Lernprozesse besser verstehen: Das ist das Forschungsgebiet des Neuropsychologen Roland Grabner. Er betrachtet mit seinem Team das Mathematiklernen aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln. Von der frühen mathematischen Entwicklung über das Verstehen von Arithmetik bis hin zur mathematischen Hochbegabung. Fragestellungen dabei sind etwa, wie Lernen im Gehirn abläuft und was die neuronalen Prozesse dabei sind. Wenn die ForscherInnen diese Prozesse besser verstehen, kann die Entwicklung mathematischer Kompetenzen zielgerichteter unterstützt werden.

Es konnte in Studien gezeigt werden, dass sich mathematisch unterschiedlich begabte Personen in der Aktivität bestimmter Gehirnregionen unterscheiden und dass diese Regionen auch eine wichtige Rolle beim Erwerb und der Anwendung mathematischen Wissens spielen. Darüber hinaus liegen erste Ergebnisse vor, dass durch nicht-invasive, also von außen einwirkende elektrische Stimulation dieser Gehirnregionen der individuelle Lernerfolg gerade in der Mathematik verbessert werden kann.

In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.
