Symposium befasst sich mit neuen Beschäftigungsformen, Arbeitszeiten und Job-Bedingungen

Am 28. und 29. Mai 2015 veranstaltet die Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz gemeinsam mit der FH Joanneum und dem Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) Steiermark ein interdisziplinäres Symposium mit dem Titel „Normalarbeit – Vergangenheit oder Zukunft?“ WissenschafterInnen sowie ExpertInnen aus der Praxis erörtern zum Beispiel Arbeitszeitwünsche von Männern und Frauen, neue Beschäftigungsformen oder Ansprüche der Wirtschaft. Im Rahmen der Tagung soll unter anderem kritisch diskutiert werden, welche Auswirkungen die geforderte Flexibilität für junge, aber auch für ältere ArbeitnehmerInnen hat und ob die Normalarbeit der Zukunft eine ganz andere Arbeitskultur erfordert. Den Abschluss des ersten Tages bildet eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Vertretern der AK Steiermark, der Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark und des AMS gemeinsam mit Dr. Johanna Muckenhuber, Professorin für Soziologie an der Uni Graz. Das Thema: Perspektiven für die Arbeitswelt.

An der Uni Graz befassen sich WissenschafterInnen aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen mit aktuellen Entwicklungen in modernen Arbeitswelten und mit Veränderungen der Arbeitsbedingungen. „Neben neuen Dienstzeiten sind auch immer mehr Menschen mit unsicheren Beschäftigungsverhältnissen konfrontiert. Außerdem werden Jobs viel öfter gewechselt“, fasst Muckenhuber zusammen. Das Symposium bringt die neuesten Erkenntnisse an die Öffentlichkeit. Es findet in Gedenken an den international renommierten Grazer Sozialwissenschafter Hans Georg Zilian (1945–2005) statt, und zwar im Audimax der FH Joanneum, Eggenberger Allee 11.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
