Offizielles Kick-off Event der europäischen Hochschulallianz Arqus an der Universität Graz

Nachdem Anfang Oktober VertreterInnen aller sieben Arqus-Universitäten in Brüssel den offiziellen Startschuss der Hochschul-Allianz gegeben hatten, beginnen nun auch die einzelnen Partner der Kooperation mit Kick-Off-Veranstaltungen. Gestern, am 14. Oktober 2019, begrüßten Rektor Martin Polaschek, Arqus-Projektkoordinatorin Anja Hoffmann und der akademische Koordinator, Helmut Eberhart, MitarbeiterInnen der Universität Graz in der Aula, um ihnen Arqus vorzustellen.

Rektor Martin Polaschek betonte in seinen Begrüßungsworten die Vorreiterrolle, die die Universität Graz hier abermals einnimmt – gemeinsam mit der BOKU Wien ist sie eine von nur zwei Universitäten in Österreich, die Teil einer Europäischen Hochschul-Allianz sind. Seitens der EU gab es im Juni 2019 eine Förderung von fünf Millionen Euro für drei Jahre. In dieser Zeit sollen 63 Aktivitäten im Rahmen von acht Aktionsschienen umgesetzt werden:

• Erweiterter Zugang zur Hochschulbildung, Integration und Diversität

• Innovatives und qualitatives Lehren und Lernen

• Mehrsprachigkeit im universitären Umfeld

• Entrepreneurship und gesellschaftliches Engagement

• Forschungsunterstützung und Förderung von NachwuchswissenschafterInnen

• Engaged European Citizens

Das Grazer Arqus-Kern-Team besteht aus zwölf MitarbeiterInnen aus verschiedenen Abteilungen, die jeweils eine Aktionsschiene hauptverantwortlich vor Ort betreuen. Dazu kommen Projekt-KoordinatorInnen und -kommunikatorinnen sowie Studierenden-VertreterInnen. Dieses Team hatte gestern Gelegenheit, auf KollegInnen in den einzelnen Fakultäten zuzugehen, Pläne und Ziele zu präsentieren und erste Entwicklungen anzustoßen.

Gemeinsam mit der Universität Graz sind auch die Universitäten Granada (Spanien), Bergen (Norwegen), Leipzig (Deutschland), Lyon (Frankreich), Padua (Italien) und Vilnius (Litauen) in der Arqus-Allianz vertreten. Diese Universitäten werden in Zukunft noch enger zusammenarbeiten um eine schrankenlose Mobilität sowie eine grenzübergreifende Kooperation in Forschung, Lehre und Management zu gewährleisten.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. An evening designed to inspire interest in studying chemistry.

Train by train: Koralm railway accelerates exchange between the Universities

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.
