Zwei Wissenschafterinnen der Universität Graz begeisterten beim Styrian Science Slam

Wenn Musik aus Blitzen entsteht, Hänsel und Gretel auf der Flucht sind und über Grillpartys in 30 Jahren nachgedacht wird, dann heißt es Bühne frei für Wissenschaft beim Science Slam. Bernhard Weingartner hatte am 27. Mai 2019 – unter der Schirmherrschaft der Steirischen Hochschulkonferenz – acht ForscherInnen von Universität Graz, Med Uni Graz und TU Graz auf die Bühne des Orpheum gebeten.
Für die Universität Graz gingen Kerstin Mitterbacher und Marlene Schweighofer in Rennen. Mitterbacher ist Migrationsforscherin und erklärte mit Hilfe von zwei Handpuppen das Verhalten von Wirtschaftsflüchtlingen. Schweighofer widmet sich der Weiter- und Erwachsenenbildung und schilderte eindrucksvoll ihre Aufenthalte in Ruanda, wo sie über den sozialen Stellenwert des Lernens forschte.
Mit einer geballten Ladung an Kreativität, Humor und Forschungskraft begeisterten die WissenschafterInnen das Publikum, das in einem spannenden Voting Karl Öttl von der Medizinischen Universität Graz zum Sieger kürte. In knapp zwei Wochen rittern sein Team und er beim großen Finale in Innsbruck um den österreichischen Staatsmeistertitel.

The astrophysicists have developed an AI-supported method that makes even the smallest structures on the Sun visible. The scientists are convinced that this will bring about a lasting change in solar observation and that the new method can be used for the planned European Solar Telescope.

How many languages are there in the world? What are their distinctive features? Which of these are spoken in Austria? These and other questions will be answered during the Long Night of Research at the University of Graz: on Friday, 24 April 2025, from 5 pm to 11 pm, in the University Library. Visitors can immerse themselves in the diversity of languages without travelling far by taking part in a quiz at the station.
