Fünf-Jahr-Jubiläum der Umwelt-, Regional- und Bildungswissenschaften: Eine Fakultät bündelt das Thema Nachhaltigkeit

Vor fünf Jahren wurde die Umwelt-, Regional- und Bildungswissenschaftliche (URBI) gegründet. Beim Fakultätstag am 22. November 2012 im Meerscheinschlössl zog Dekanin Univ.-Prof. Dr. Barbara Gasteiger-Klicpera Bilanz: „Die URBI hat sich zu einer eigenständigen und selbstbewussten Fakultät entwickelt. Der hohe Anspruch, einen essentiellen Beitrag zu gesellschaftlich brisanten Themen zu leisten, zieht sich quer durch alle Disziplinen.“ Naheliegend, dass sich die URBI auch bei ihrem Fakultätstag einem topaktuellen, gesellschaftspolitischen Thema widmete: Nachhaltigkeit, also verantwortungsvolles Handeln zur Wahrung der Chancen nachkommender Generationen.
Vizerektor Martin Polaschek gratulierte im Namen des Rektorats zum Jubiläum: „Einzelne Bereiche haben sich zu einem neuen Ganzen formiert und die Profilbildung forciert.“

In Fachvorträgen von drei neuen Professoren wurden verschiedene Zugänge zum Konzept der nachhaltigen Entwicklung veranschaulicht. Die BesucherInnen erfuhren, dass ein „Denken in Systemen” dem Verständnis des Nachhaltigkeitskonzeptes dient, dass etwa nachhaltige Entwicklung einen direkten Bezug zu unserem täglichen Konsumverhalten hat – beispielsweise über die von uns induzierten Stoff- und Energieströme, wie etwa Stickstoffströme.
Die abschließende Podiumsdiskussion rundete den Fakultätstag ab –ExpertInnen aus den vier Wissenschaftszweigen diskutierten unter der Moderation von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rudolf Egger: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rupert Baumgartner, Institut für Systemwissenschaften, Innovations- und Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement, Ass.-Prof. Dr. Birgit Bednar-Friedl, Institut für Volkswirtschaftslehre/Wegener Zentrum für Klima und Globalen Wandel, Dr. Filippina Risopoulos-Pichler, Institut für Geographie und Raumforschung, Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sylvia Titze, Institut für Sportwissenschaft, sowie Studierende der URBI-Fakultät.
