ExpertInnen der regionalen Klimamodellierung tauschten sich bei internationalem Netzwerk-Treffen an der Uni Graz aus

Rund 60 ForscherInnen, großteils aus europäischen Ländern, trafen sich von 19. bis 22. September 2017 an der Uni Graz zur „12. CLM Community Assembly“. Die CLM (Climate Limited-area Modelling) Community ist ein internationales Netzwerk von WissenschafterInnen, die mit dem regionalen Klimamodell COSMO arbeiten und es weiter verbessern. Heuer fand das Treffen der Vereinigung erstmals in Österreich statt. Für die Organisation verantwortlich war ein Team um Dr. Heimo Truhetz vom Wegener Center für Klima und Globalen Wandel Karl-Franzens-Universität.

„ForscherInnen unserer Universität verfügen über umfassende Expertise im Bereich Umwelt und Globaler Wandel. Dieser zählt zu jenen Feldern, die das Profil der Universität maßgeblich prägen“, unterstrich Vizerektor Peter Riedler bei der Eröffnung der Veranstaltung. Die Entwicklung von zuverlässigen Klimamodellen ist Ziel der Forschungsgruppe Reloclim am Wegener Center, dessen stellvertretender Leiter Heimo Truhetz ist.

„COSMO wird derzeit von mehreren europäischen Wetterdiensten, aber auch in Russland und Israel verwendet“, berichtet der Wissenschafter, der einer Arbeitsgruppe der CLM Community angehört. Das Netzwerk-Treffen bot den Mitgliedern Gelegenheit, sich über den aktuellen Stand der Modell-Entwicklung und dessen Anwendungen zu informieren, sowie ein Forum für Diskussion, Erfahrungsaustausch und die Festlegung neuer Ziele.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
