Guiseppe Verdis „Rigoletto“ wurde im Innenhof des Hauptgebäudes aufgeführt

 

Rigoletto ist der bucklige Hofnarr des Herzogs von Mantua, der als notorischer Frauenheld laufend Herzen bricht. Stets macht der Narr sich über die Opfer des Herzogs sowie deren gehörnte Ehemänner und entsetzte Väter lustig und demütigt sie mit beißendem Spott. Doch seine eigene Geschichte endet ebenfalls tragisch – wie am Samstag, 27. Juni 2015, im Innenhof der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz auf beeindruckende Weise zu sehen und zu hören war. Das Grazer Universitätsorchester (GUO) präsentierte „Rigoletto“, die beliebte Oper von Guiseppe Verdi mit bekannten Ohrwürmern wie "La donna è mobile", als besondere Aufführung unter freiem Himmel.

Rigoletto verehrt seine vermeintliche Geliebte Gilda, von der allerdings niemand weiß, dass sie in Wahrheit seine eigene Tochter ist. Als der Herzog von Mantua eine Affäre mit der hinreißenden Schönheit beginnt, schwört Rigoletto Rache und versucht, seinen Widersacher ermorden zu lassen. Gilda, selbst unsterblich in den Herzog verliebt, opfert sich für ihn. Somit hat der Narr am Ende alles verloren.

Initiatorin des Großprojekts, bei dem Profis und LaiInnen miteinander agierten, ist die aus Simbabwe stammende und in Mautern lebende Opernsängerin Sarah Kettner. Die musikalische Leitung übernahm Andrej Skorobogatko, Dirigent des GUO. Die gemeinsamen Mühen haben sich gelohnt: „Aus der trockenen Notenpartitur ist eine opulente Operninszenierung geworden“, freuen sich die VeranstalterInnen. Ausladende Kostüme, die teilweise in Zusammenarbeit mit der Modelschule Graz entworfen und geschneidert wurden, sowie die liebevoll gebaute Kulisse versetzen die begeisterten ZuschauerInnen ins Italien des 16. Jahrhunderts.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
