Gleich zwei Uni-Graz-Projekte sind auf der Shortlist zum Wirtschaftspreis des Landes Steiermark

Innovation treibt Forschung an - und umgekehrt. Gleich zwei innovative Projekte, an denen die Universität Graz maßgeblich beteiligt ist, haben Eingang auf die "Kurzliste" des steirischen Wirtschaftspreises gefunden: Die "Bücherwaschmaschine" NanoKult von Volker Ribbitsch vom Institut für Chemie hilft dabei, alte Bücher und respektive altes Papier vor dem Verfall zu retten. Mit "Enzym-Google" entwickelten WissenschafterInnen des Instituts für Molekulare Biowissenschaften gemeinsam mit KollegInnen des Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (ACIB GmbH) eine intelligente Datenbank, in der nach Enzymen wie in einer Internet-Suchmaschine gesucht werden kann. Die Suche am Computer erspart unzählige teure und langwierige Experimente. "Enzym"-Google wird im Spin-off InnoPhore weiterentwickelt.

Beide Projekte, die als Vorzeigebeispiele für universitäre Forschung gelten, wurden für den Fast Forward Award der steirischen Forschungsförderungesgesellschaft SFG eingereicht und stehen bereits auf der Shortlist. Bis 15. August 2017 besteht nun die Möglichkeit unter https://www.sfg.at/cms/4963/ für die Projekte in der Kategorie Institutionen und Forschungseinrichtugen über das Internet abzustimmen. Überreicht wird der Preis dann Mitte September im Rahmen eines Gala-Abends im Grazer Schauspielhaus

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
