WissenschafterInnen aus Graz, Erfurt und London führen heute althistorische Adventgespräche

Dem Thema Gruppenreligionen und Mysterien widmen sich die Althistorischen Adventgespräche an der Uni Graz, die heute zum 14. Mal stattfinden. Bei seiner Begrüßung betonte Vizerektor Peter Scherrer die Aktualität des Themas "in einer Zeit, in der unschuldige Kinder abgeschlachtet werden". In einem sich zunehmend polarisierenden Europa sei es wichtig, die Riten und Kulte der Religionen aufzuarbeiten.

In seiner Einführung verwies Wolfgang Spickermann vom Institut für Alte Geschichte auf den im 19. Jahrhundert geprägten Begriff der Mysterienreligionen, der in den letzten Jahren dekonstruiert und durch "Gruppenreligionen" ersetzt wurde: "'Mysterion' setzt einen Geheimkult voraus. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass mitunter hunderte Menschen am Kultgeschehen beteiligt waren, kann man davon nicht immer sprechen."

Auf Grundlage dieser religionshistorischen Neuorientierung thematisieren die 14. Adventgespräche die Beziehung zwischen den Gruppenreligionen und den Mysterien, die als Initiationsrituale immer noch von entscheidender Bedeutung für das Selbstverständnis wie die Fremdbestimmung der religiösen Gruppen sind.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI
