Festakt zum 80. Geburtstag von Kirchenhistoriker Maximilian Liebmann

1934 war jenes Jahr, in dem das in Grundzügen bis heute gültige Konkordat in Österreich in Kraft gesetzt wurde. Es war auch jenes Jahr, in dem Em.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Maximilian Liebmann, renommierter Kirchenhistoriker Österreichs und von 1991 bis 1999 Dekan der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz geboren wurde. Kein Wunder also, dass der Festakt zu Ehren des Wissenschafters Liebmann im Uni-Zentrum Theologie am 16. September 2014 ganz im Zeichen der kirchlichen Zeitgeschichte stand. Eine große Anzahl prominenter Gäste nahm in den Glückwunsch-Reden darauf Bezug. So war es Maximilian Liebmann, der den Schwerpunkt zur kirchlichen Zeitgeschichte an der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät eingerichtet hat, wie Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michaela Sohn-Kronthaler, Leiterin des Instituts für Kirchengeschichte und Kirchliche Zeitgeschichte, erinnerte: „Er hat mit Leib und Seele das universitäre Leben mitgeprägt.“

Freund und Studienkollege Bischof Dr. Egon Kapellari bezeichnete den 80. Geburtstag als „Erntetag“: „Liebmann hat viel dazu beigetragen, Fehler der katholischen Kirche darzustellen.“
Bürgermeister Mag. Siegfried Nagl überraschte Liebmann mit der Ankündigung, dass der Jubilar in den Kreis der Bürger der Stadt Graz aufgenommen wird.
Univ.-Prof. DDr. Reinhold Esterbauer, Dekan der Theologisch-Katholischen Fakultät würdigte sowohl die akademischen Leistungen – „Maximilian Liebmann hat Strukturen geschaffen, von den die Fakultät heute noch profitiert“ – als auch seine gesellschaftspolitische Rolle: „Es ist pointiert für die Eigenverantwortung von Laien in der Kirche eingetreten.“
Auch Liebmann selbst blickte anlässlich des Jubiläums auf acht Jahrzehnte zurück: Mit seinen druckfrischen, im Wagner-Verlag erschienenen Lebenserinnerungen: „Das Konzil sieht die Aufgabe des Laien ganz anders.“
