Internationale ExpertInnen treffen sich zu einem Workshop über mathematische Modelle in der Biologie an der Uni Graz

Warum können wir unsere Fäuste ballen? Und wie bilden sich spezialisierte Körperzellen? Zur Klärung derartiger Forschungsfragen haben BiologInnen Hypothesen erstellt. Es benötigt allerdings zusätzliche mathematische Modelle, um diese zu untermauern - oder zu falsifizieren. Dieser Bereich ist ein stetig wachsendes Gebiet innerhalb der Mathematik, die dafür auch ihre eigenen Methoden weiterentwickeln muss. Am 29. Jänner treffen sich europäische WissenschafterInnen an der Universität zu einen Workshop, um Erfahrungen auszutauschen und neue Impulse für die Lösung beziehungsweise Charakterisierung komplexer Gleichungssysteme zu erhalten. Das Meeting wurde von Klemens Fellner und Gudrun Schappacher-Tilp vom Institut für Mathematik der Uni Graz organisiert und findet im Rahmen des Forschungsschwerpunkts Modelle und Simulation statt.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.
