Allowing and valuing diversity in a society is not just a question of equal rights for all. "Diversity increases creativity - culturally, in art and in business," says Zorica Siročić. Born in Croatia, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology, where she is investigating feminist and LGBTQ movements. She finds festivals a particularly exciting form of activism in the community. These began to boom in south-east Europe around 2010. "Many such feminist and queer events can be seen as a kind of 'reparative politics'," says the researcher, explaining: "What is not possible in society is practised at these events. What goes wrong is repaired, so to speak."
"How can we get rid of boundaries?" is the title of the current issue. In it, researchers show how we can remove the various barriers that we encounter at every turn.
