Internationaler Workshop an der Uni Graz diskutiert Grundlage für Medikamente oder Handy-Displays der Zukunft

Welchen Einfluss Oberflächen auf das Wachstum von Kristallen haben, ist Thema des Workshops „substrate-mediated polymorphism in organic thin films“, den das Institut für Chemie erstmals an der Uni Graz organisiert. Noch bis morgen diskutieren rund 50 WissenschafterInnen, wie man Polymorphie, also die Fähigkeit von Molekülen, in verschiedenen Anordnungen auszukristallisieren, für die Materialwissenschaft gezielt nutzen kann. „Jedes Polymorph hat spezifische Eigenschaften, die man für genau definierte Anwendungen einsetzen kann“, beschreibt Mit-Organisator Oliver Werzer. Zum Einsatz kommt die Technologie unter anderem in modernen Handydisplays oder in gezielt wirkenden Medikamenten.
Der Workshop wurde von NAWI Graz gemeinsam mit der Firma Anton Paar veranstaltet.
