Österreichischer Bibliothekartag von 10. bis 13.9.2019 in Graz

Der Österreichische Bibliothekartag, der von der Vereinigung Österreichischer Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare (VÖB), dem Büchereiverband Österreichs (BVÖ) und der Universitätsbibliothek Graz veranstaltet wird, steht heuer unter dem Motto „Künstliche Intelligenz in Bibliotheken“. Er findet von 10. bis 13. September 2019 im Grazer Congress statt.

Für die über 600 TeilnehmerInnen aus mehr als 20 europäischen Ländern und Übersee wird ein hochkarätiger Kongress vorbereitet, der Fragen nach zukünftigen Einsatzmöglichkeiten von künstlicher Intelligenz in Bibliotheken stellt. Das umfangreiche Programm mit rund 100 Vorträgen und Präsentationen umfasst auch Themen wie Erwartungshaltungen von Forschung und Lehre an Bibliotheken. Diese betreffen unter anderem Open Access, Open Education, den Umgang mit Forschungsdaten und Digitalisierung. Herausforderungen, die die rasanten technischen Weiterentwicklungen sowohl für das Management als auch für die tägliche Arbeit bedeuten, werden ebenso diskutiert wie zukünftige Schwerpunkte in der Ausbildung der BibliothekarInnen.

Den Eröffnungsvortrag „Die Bibliothek nach dem Ende der Bibliothek“ hält der Manfred Prisching vom Institut für Soziologie der Universität Graz, der die Bibliotheken der Zukunft als multifunktionale Orte sieht. Sybille Krämer von der FU Berlin spricht als Keynote über die „Kulturtechnik Digitalität“. Und im Anschluss geht Tony Ross-Hellauer von der TU Graz der Frage nach dem Wert von Open Science nach. Außerdem werden die künftige Präsidentin der International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Barbara Lison, und die Präsidentin der American Library Association (ALA), Loida Garcia-Febo, in Graz erwartet.

Der Kongress richtet sich an Angehörige wissenschaftlicher und öffentlicher Bibliotheken, an Studierende des Bibliotheks- und Informationsmanagements sowie an InformationsexpertInnen aus dem öffentlichen Bereich und der Privatwirtschaft, steht aber allen Interessierten offen. Etwa 40 Firmen haben sich für die Firmenausstellung angekündigt, darunter sowohl Fachverlage als auch Technik- und Serviceanbieter. Ergänzend wird es auch von einigen Firmenpartnern Fachvorträge geben.

The paper was published today in the scientific journal Nature Communications.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. Train by train: Koralm railway accelerates exchange between the Universities

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.
