Bettina Knötzl, Präsidentin von Transparency International Austria, zu Gast im Politik Café

Korruption ist kein Kavaliersdelikt. „Das ist in der Bevölkerung angekommen“, attestierte Bettina Knötzl, Präsidentin des Beirates von Transparency International Austria im Politik Café der Universität Graz. „Und dennoch gibt es noch viel zu tun.“ Welche Aufgaben die gemeinnützige Organisation erfüllt, das stand am 23. Jänner 2019 bei der Diskussion im Café Promenade im Mittelpunkt. Warum schadet Korruption uns allen? wollte Markus Steppan, Rechtswissenschafter an der Universität Graz, unter anderem von der Expertin wissen. „Es schadet eindeutig unserem Wirtschaftsstandort“, betonte Bettina Knötzl. „Und Korruption ist besonders dann problematisch, wenn die SteuerzahlerInnen draufzahlen.“ Österreich liege im internationalen Korruptionsindex zwar auf Rang 16, aber man könnte besser platziert sein, so die ehrenamtliche Kämpferin für mehr Transparenz. So sei die vielzitierte „Freunderlwirtschaft“ hierzulande nach wie vor ein Thema.
Transparency International Austria wurde vor elf Jahren gegründet und ist Teil des weltweiten Netzwerkes, das 90 Chapter umfasst.

Die Reihe „Politik Café“ ist Teil der 7. fakultät, des Zentrums für Gesellschaft, Wissen und Kommunikation der Universität Graz.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.
