20. Arbeitstagung des Austrian Center for Intelligence, Propaganda & Security Studies

Zur mittlerweile 20. Arbeitstagung lud am 28. November 2014 das ACIPSS – Austrian Center for Intelligence, Propaganda & Security Studies am Institut für Geschichte der Uni Graz.

Am Vormittag standen Vorträge von Univ.-Doz. Dr. Erwin A. Schmidl von der Landesverteidigungsakademie beim Österreichischen Bundesheer, Unternehmensberater DI (FH) Mag. Thomas Goiser, MA, und Dr. Gordan Akrap aus dem Bereich Hochschulwesen der kroatischen Regierung auf dem Programm.

Der Workshop am Nachmittag widmete sich dann dem Thema „Der offene Raum in der Stadt. Sicher leben in Graz“. Dazu diskutierten als Gäste Werner Miedl, Geschäftsführer des Vereins „Graz: Sicher leben“, und Karl Brunnbauer, der die Initiative „proNACHBAR“ – für eine sichere Nachbarschaft – ins Leben gerufen hat.

Das ACIPSS wurde vor zehn Jahren auf Initiative des Historikers Ao.Univ.-Prof. i.R. Dr. Siegfried Beer gegründet. Angesiedelt am Institut für Geschichte der Uni Graz widmet es sich als international ausgerichtetes Forschungs- und Kompetenzzentrum der Untersuchung und Analyse der Bereiche Intelligence, Propaganda und Sicherheit.

The Nazi elite school Napola: Historian seeks memories and personal documents

They were to be brought up to become the future elite of National Socialism: boys and girls aged ten and over who, following the ‘Anschluss’ of Austria to the German Reich, attended a so-called Napola (short for Nationalpolitische Lehranstalt; also known as NPEA, Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalt). There were nine such institutions in what is now Austria between 1939 and 1945.
