Historiker Karl Kaser mit zwei Ehrendoktoraten ausgezeichnet

Für seine Verdienste um die Weiterentwicklung der historisch-anthropologischen bzw. visuellen Studien auf dem Balkan und in der Schwarzmeerregion wurde Karl Kaser vom Institut für Geschichte mit zwei Ehrendoktoraten ausgezeichnet – am 28. November 2019 von der Schota-Rustaweli-Universität in Batumi/Georgien und am 5. Dezember 2019 von der Süd-West-Universität Blagoevgrad/Bulgarien.

Das Ehrendoktorat an der Uni Blagoevgrad wurde ihm aufgund seiner Leistungen in der Erforschung von Geschichte und Kultur unserer Region wie auch für seinen persönlichen Beitrag zur Entwicklung der gemeinsamen Forschungen zwischen der Universität Graz und der Uni Blagoevgrad mit höheren Bildungseinrichtungen verliehen. Die Schota-Rustaweli-Universität Batumi zeichnete den Historiker für seinen erheblichen Beitrag zur Erforschung der Schwarzmeerregion aus.

Mit der Universität Blagoevgrad bzw. mit dem dortigen Balkanseminar gibt es bereits eine 25-jährige Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet der Historischen Anthropologie. Beide Universitäten gehören zu den zwölf Universitäten des Schwarzmeergebiets, die im EU-Projekt “Knowledge Exchange and Academic Cultures in the Humanities: Europe and the Black Sea Region, late 18th – 21st Centuries” zusammengefasst sind, das Kaser zusammen mit Dominik Gutmeyr leitet.

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.
