Hektik im Kopf

Stressmanagement, Selbstmanagement und die Kraft der Gedanken. Und: Neues Format löst Tipp der Woche ab

Stress ist eine chemische Reaktion des Körpers, bei der Adrenalin und Noradrenalin in die Blutbahn ausgeschüttet werden und sich der Körper zu Kampf oder Flucht (fight - flight) rüstet. Eigentlich ist Stress aber eine selbstverständliche körperliche Reaktion auf eine Herausforderung. Der Mensch braucht für die körperliche und seelische Entwicklung angemessene Belastungen, die zum Handeln anspornen. Anspannung und der Wechsel zur nötigen Entspannung sind Voraussetzungen für das Wohlbefinden. Fühlen wir uns aber über längere Zeit überfordert und stehen dadurch unter chronischer Anspannung, kann es zu unterschiedlichen Stress-Symptomen in Form psychosomatischer Beschwerden kommen. Es ist daher wichtig, Stress möglichst zu reduzieren.

Es gibt vielfältige Stressoren in allen Lebensbereichen (Umgebung/Umwelt, Lebensweise, Körper, Einstellungen/Denkweisen etc.). StressforscherInnen haben jedoch herausgefunden, dass nicht die jeweilige Situation selbst ein Stressauslöser ist, sondern die individuelle/subjektive Bewertung dieser. Dort setzt auch das Stressmanagement bzw. Selbstmanagement an –die Fähigkeit, das eigene Handeln aktiv situationsentsprechend zu gestalten. Nützen Sie dabei die Kraft der Gedanken!

Einen großen Teil der täglichen Hektik unter der wir leiden, machen uns oft nicht die anderen, sondern wir uns selbst durch unsere Denkmuster. Als einfache Entlastungshilfe nehmen Sie den Druck aus einer Situation, indem Sie z.B. antreibende, Sie selbst unter Druck setzende Formulierungen aus Ihrem Wortschatz streichen und Ihre Gedanken positiv und gelassen formulieren:

  • „Ich sorge dafür, dass es funktioniert“ statt „Das geht nicht“
  • „Das schaffe ich“ statt „Ich kann das nicht“
  • „Ich erledige das in der geplanten Zeit“ statt „Ich muss möglichst schnell fertig werden“
  • Atmen Sie öfter tief durch, wenn Sie hektisch werden


Das Bewusstsein, eine Situation (auch trotz äußerer Vorgaben) durch die eigene Einstellung und Gedankenkraft gestalten zu können, schafft den Freiraum, der dann zum Erfolg führt.

Letzter Tipp der Woche, neues Format ab Februar 2016
In diesem Jahr hat der Tipp der Woche besondere Leistungen und Angebote, welche die Universität Graz für ihre MitarbeiterInnen zu Gesundheit, Bewegung, Wohlbefinden, Prävention, Work-Life-Balance und Vereinbarkeit anbietet, wöchentlich im Intranet vorgestellt. Ab Februar 2016 wird eine neue Plattform alle Leistungen und Angebote für Bedienstete bündeln und präsentieren. Mehr dazu im Jänner 2016.

Jurassic Sounds: Biologist reconstructs insect songs from 165 million years ago

It was apparently not just the roars of the dinosaurs that made up the soundscape of the animal world during the Jurassic period. Crickets and grasshoppers communicated through a variety of songs and high-pitched sounds, as Thorin Jonsson from the Institute of Biology at the University of Graz discovered together with colleagues from the universities of Lincoln, Bristol (UK), Beijing (China) and Tempe (USA). The University of Graz is further expanding its international study opportunities through the European university alliance Arqus and is taking the lead in two key projects. In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
