Der renommierte britische Ökonom Tony Atkinson beleuchtet Fragen der Einkommensverteilung

Im RESOWI-Zentrum der Uni Graz wurden am 18. Oktober 2012 die diesjährigen Graz Schumpeter Lectures eröffnet. Als Vortragender konnte Professor Sir Anthony Barnes Atkinson vom Nuffield College der University of Oxford gewonnen werden. Atkinson gilt als weltweit bedeutendster Ökonom auf dem Gebiet der Einkommensverteilung, wie Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Richard Sturn, Präsident der Grazer Schumpeter Gesellschaft, hervorhob.

 

Vizedekanin Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Katharina Scherke hieß Atkinson an der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Uni Graz herzlich willkommen und unterstrich die Aktualität des Themas der heurigen Vorlesungsreihe. Im Rahmen der Graz Schumpeter Lectures wird sich Atkinson bis 23. Oktober „Public Economics in an Age of Austerity“ widmen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Fragen rund um die ökonomischen Aufgaben beziehungsweise Ausgaben des Staates, wie etwa die Besteuerung der Reichen. Weiters beleuchtet der renommierte Wissenschafter verschiedene ökonomische Modelle sowie Public Economics im globalen Kontext.

 

Die Graz Schumpeter Lectures werden jährlich von der Grazer Schumpeter Gesellschaft an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz veranstaltet. In diesen Vorlesungen, für die immer ein/e für seine/ihre besondere Originalität und analytische Tiefe bekannte/r WissenschafterIn eingeladen wird, sollen den aktuellen Stand der Forschung auf dem jeweiligen Gebiet sowie erfolgversprechende Weiterentwicklungen erörtern. Sie richten sich an ein breiteres interessiertes Publikum und sind grundsätzlich öffentlich. Die schriftliche Fassung der Vorträge wird anschließend vom Verlag Routledge (London) in der Reihe "The Graz Schumpeter Lectures" publiziert.
