Grazer Universitäten bauen auf Förderung durch FWF

„Die Universitäten sind unsere wichtigsten Partnerinnen“, untermauerte FWF-Präsident Klement Tockner im Rahmen der aktuellen Roadshow des österreichischen Wissenschaftsfonds, die am 28. April 2017 an der Uni Graz Station machte. Der Dialog zwischen ForscherInnen und Fonds stand im Mittelpunkt. Auch die drei Grazer RektorInnen Christa Neuper (Uni Graz), Harald Kainz (TU Graz) und Hellmut Samonigg (Med Uni) diskutierten mit FWF-Präsident Tockner die Rahmenbedingungen zur Förderung der Grundlagenforschung am Standort Graz. Dessen hohen Stellenwert belegte Tockner anhand von Fakten: 437 Projekte werden derzeit am Forschungsstandort Graz vom FWF gefördert, 700 WissenschafterInnen finanziert, davon sind die Hälfte DoktorandInnen. 

„Der FWF ist der wichtigste Fördergeber unserer Universität und stellt die Hälfte der Drittmitteleinnahmen“, bestätigte Rektorin Christa Neuper. Auch für die forschungsstarken Kooperationen bildet der FWF ein festes Fundament, so kann BioTechMed-Graz auf 107 laufende FWF-Projekte verweisen. Neuper verwies zudem auf die Bedeutung der Einrichtung für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs: „Ein FWF-Projekt einzuwerben, ist ein entscheidender Faktor für die weitere Karriere.“ Generell habe der Fonds zur Förderung der Grundlagenforschung einen hohen Anteil an der Qualitätssicherung: „Er hat Standards festgelegt, die mittlerweile insgesamt für die Universität Gültigkeit haben.“

The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.

On the trail of the Big Bang: University of Graz receives 1.5 million euros for doctoral programmes

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
