Zwei Studierende der Uni Graz erhielten Stipendium der Marshallplan-Jubliäumsstiftung

In den USA forschen und ihre Abschlussarbeit schreiben können Petra Frager und Lisa Krassnig. Die beiden Studierenden des Masterprogramms „Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine“ erhielten Stipendien von der Marshallplan-Jubliäumsstiftung, die ihnen den Aufenthalt an der University of Pittsburgh beziehungsweise an der Rockefeller University in New York finanzieren. Frager erforscht die Rolle eines bestimmten Proteins auf die zelluläre Bioenergetik in gezüchteten menschlichen Fettzellen. Krassnig arbeitet an neuen Zugängen für die Entwicklung eines Impfstoffes gegen HIV.
Die US-Botschafterin in Österreich Alexa Wesner überreichte die insgesamt 46 Stipendien kürzlich gemeinsam mit Wolfgang Petritsch und Markus Schweiger, dem Präsidenten und dem Geschäftsführer der Stiftung.
Die Marshallplan-Jubliäumsstiftung verwaltet die Zinsen des Marshallplans und investiert in den akademischen Austausch zwischen Österreich und den USA. Für die Stipendien können sich Studierende mit exzellenten Leistungen aus ganz Österreich bewerben. KandidatInnen der Uni Graz werden der Stiftung vom Büro für Internationale Beziehungen vorgeschlagen.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
