Der syrische Wissenschafter Ephrem Ishac entkam dem Krieg in seiner Heimat und arbeitet jetzt in Forschungsprojekt an der Uni Graz

Ephrem Ishac kam Im Oktober vergangenen Jahres im Rahmen des Mobilitätsprogramms JOSYLEEM (für JOrdan SYria Linking Europe and Erasmus Mundus) an die Karl-Franzens-Universität. Zuvor hatte der gebürtige Syrer seine Dissertation an der Université de Saint Ésprit in Kaslik (unweit von Beirut) im Libanon erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Den ursprünglich bis Ende März geplanten Studienaufenthalt in Graz konnte er dank der Bemühungen des Büros für Internationale Beziehungen bis Ende Juli verlängern. Gemeinsam mit Erich Renhart, Leiter des Zentrums Vestigia für die Erforschung des Buch- und Schrifterbes, und Thomas Klampfl beantragte Ishac das Forschungsprojekt „Syrische Anaphoren – Edition nach den Handschriften“, das kürzlich vom Österreichischen Wissenschaftsfonds FWF auch bewilligt wurde.

Dieses Editionsprojekt ist zunächst auf zwei Jahre angelegt. Es erschließt ein Korpus zentraler liturgischer Texte der westsyrischen Tradition. Die Texte gehen in die Zeit der frühen Christenheit zurück. Dafür ist es notwendig, weltweit alle relevanten Handschriften einzusehen und zu vergleichen. So müssen mehrere Dutzend Manuskripte studiert werden. Die syrischen Texte und deren Übersetzungen werden über eine Datenbank zugänglich gemacht. Ephrem Ishac, der großer Experte in syrischer Kultur und Tradition sowie zu handschriftlichen Überlieferungen ist, wird im Rahmen dieses Projekts als Senior Researcher angestellt.
