Uni Graz untersucht Einfluss von Mikroorganismen auf Riechfähigkeit

Der menschliche Körper wird von Trillionen von Mikroorganismen bevölkert, die enorme Auswirkungen auf Gesundheitszustand und Verhalten haben können. In einer neuen Studie von Karl-Franzens-Universität und Med Uni Graz wird der Zusammenhang zwischen dem Geruchsvermögen und der Bakterienbesiedelung der Nasenschleimhaut ergründet. Es wird untersucht, ob diese Mikroorganismen Rückschlüsse auf die Riechfähigkeit zulassen und Perspektiven für die Therapie von Riechstörungen eröffnen.

Für diese Studie sucht die Uni Graz nun TeilnehmerInnen zwischen 18 und 45 Jahren. Sie dürfen an keinen neurologischen, psychiatrischen oder sonstigen schweren Erkrankungen sowie weder an Erkältungen und Allergien noch Polypen leiden. Die ProbandInnen nehmen an einer standardisierten Geruchstestung teil und müssen psychologische Fragebögen ausfüllen. Weiters erfolgt eine kurze, schmerzfreie Entnahme von Nasenschleimhautproben. Die gesamte Untersuchung dauert ein bis eineinhalb Stunden. Im Gegenzug erhalten Sie detaillierte Informationen über Ihre Geruchsfunktion. Psychologiestudierenden wird ein Versuchsschein über 90 Minuten ausgestellt.

These and other questions will be answered during the Long Night of Research at the University of Graz: on Friday, 24 April 2025, from 5 pm to 11 pm, in the University Library. Visitors can immerse themselves in the diversity of languages without travelling far by taking part in a quiz at the station.
