Zoologen der Uni Graz präsentieren aktuellste Erhebungen

Das Institut für Zoologie der Karl-Franzens-Universität untersucht seit sechs Jahren die Winterverluste von Bienenvölkern in Österreich. Für die Saison 1012/13 lieferten 952 Imkereien mit insgesamt 18.867 Bienenvölkern ihre Daten. Im Durchschnitt verendeten 17,6 Prozent der eingewinterten Völker. „Dieses Ergebnis ist zwar besser als nach dem Katastrophenwinter 2011/12, liegt aber dennoch deutlich über dem langjährigen Durchschnitt von etwa zehn bis 15 Prozent“, erklärt Univ.-Prof. Dr. Karl Crailsheim, Leiter der Forschungsgruppe an der Uni Graz. Ein knappes Drittel der ImkerInnen musste heuer einen Verlust von mehr als zwanzig Prozent ihrer Völker hinnehmen.
Die Ursachen für das hohe Bienensterben sind nicht vollständig aufgeklärt. „Es dürfte eine Reihe von Gründen und deren Kombination eine Rolle spielen“, vermutet Crailsheim. Mit seinem Team versucht er nun, Risikofaktoren zu identifizieren, basierend auf den Angaben der Imkereien. Die Art der Behandlung gegen die Varroa-Milbe und die angeflogenen Trachtquellen sind wichtige Kriterien. „Erste Analysen der Ergebnisse haben gezeigt, dass die Verluste sehr unterschiedlich über das Bundesgebiet verteilt sind und von Bienenstand zu Bienenstand sehr stark variieren“, fasst der Zoologe zusammen.

Alle ImkerInnen Österreichs hatten bis 20. Juni 2013 die Gelegenheit, ihren Überwinterungserfolg – auf Wunsch auch anonym – dem Team der Uni Graz zu melden. Die Erhebung und Auswertung erfolgt nach einem internationalen Standard. Mitte Juli werden die Daten anderer europäischer Länder veröffentlicht, die einen internationalen Vergleich und eine gemeinsame Auswertung ermöglichen.
