Rector Riedler, who was re-elected for a four-year term back in January 2025, is largely relying on his existing team: Joachim Reidl as Vice Rector for Research, Catherine Walter-Laager as Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching, and Markus Fallenböck as Vice Rector for Human Resources and Digitalisation.
Şebnem Bahadır-Berzig is a new addition to the executive committee. She succeeds Mireille van Poppel as Vice Rector for Internationalisation and Equal Opportunities. She has been Professor of Translation Studies at the University of Graz since December 2020. Her academic work centres on the personal and ethical challenges faced by interpreters working with people in the context of displacement and migration. She is currently establishing an international research network on the topic of multilingualism and translation in crisis and disaster zones, which involves social actors.
Greater diversity among university staff, a multilingual and inclusive campus, and a welcoming academic culture to attract more international students and researchers are some of her goals for the term of the rectorate, which begins on 1 October.
