Neue Publikation zu der Bildersammlung in Aula und Altem Senatssaal

Sie prägen eine Universität im Laufe ihrer Amtszeit wesentlich, stehen oft für individuelle bildungspolitische Wege, bestimmte Initiativen, Lebens- und Arbeitsphilosophien: Die Rektoren der Grazer Hochschulen werden deshalb seit rund 90 Jahren nach Ablauf ihrer Amtsperioden mit einem Portrait geehrt. Die neue Publikation der Kunsthistorikerin Univ.-Prof. Dr. Barbara Aulinger versammelt nun als erstes Nachschlagewerk überhaupt sämtliche Portraits der Altrektoren und setzt sich mit ihnen auf wissenschaftlicher Basis auseinander.

 

"Dieses Bild ist ähnlicher als ich" - ein Zitat des Architekten Adolf Loos über ein Portrait, das Oskar Kokoschka von ihm gemalt hatte, nahm Barbara Aulinger als Titel für ihr Buch, an dem sie gemeinsam mit Studierenden der Kunstgeschichte sieben Jahre gearbeitet hatte und das ab sofort im Handel erhältlich ist (Leykam-Verlag). Am 13. Dezember 2012 wurde es im Alten Senatssaal im Beisein zahlreicher Altrektoren der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, TU, Kunstuniversität und Montanuniversität Leoben präsentiert.

 

"Eine genaue Aufarbeitung der Rektorenportraits ist seit langer Zeit wünschenswert", unterstrich die amtierende Rektorin der Uni Graz, Christa Neuper, in ihren Eröffnungsworten. "Immerhin ist die Aula einer der meist frequentierten Räume der Univeristät, in der jeden Monat viele Sponsionen und Promotionen stattfinden."

 

Wer ist es, dessen Portrait an der Wand hängt, in welcher Zeit stand er der Universität vor und was wurde damals erreicht?, mögen sich zahlreiche junge AbsolventInnen während dem Warten auf die Abschlussfeier bereits oft gefragt haben. Die neue Publikation beantwortet nicht nur diese Fragen, sondern lädt auch zum lustvollen Schmökern und Nachlesen wissenswerter Anekdoten ein. Zudem werden die Entstehungsgeschichten der einzelnen Portraits besprochen und die Bilder in ihren kunsthistorischen als auch bildungspolitischen Kontext eingeordnet.

 

Nach der Präsentation, in der auch der Geschäftsführer des Leykam-Verlags, Dr. Wolfgang Hölzl, die stets bereichernde und positive Kooperation mit der Uni Graz betonte - das aktuelle Werk ist der 101. Titel, der aus dieser über sechsjährigen Zusammenarbeit hervor gegangen ist - , führte Barbara Aulinger das zahlreich erschienene Publikum durch die Aula und gab so manches "Schmankerl" zu den Portraits preis.
