unikid & unicare lud zum Jubiläumsfest

An der Uni Graz soll es Studierenden und MitarbeiterInnen besonders gut gelingen, den Beruf bzw. das Studium mit der Familie zu vereinbaren. Mit diesem Ziel wurde vor 10 Jahren die Anlaufstelle unikid gegründet, die seitdem zahlreiche Maßnahmen zur gelungenen Vereinbarkeit ins Leben gerufen hat und dafür bereits mehrfach ausgezeichnet wurde. 2011 erfolgte die Erweiterung um den Bereich der familiären Pflege - seitdem findet sich auch der Begriff unicare im Namen der Anlaufstelle, die ihr rundes Jubiliäum mit einer Fachtagung und einem Festakt am 30. Oktober 2014 in der Aula der Uni Graz feierte.

 

Unter den GratulantInnen waren neben den beiden Landesräten Michael Schickhofer und Christopher Drexler auch Roberta Schaller-Steidl vom Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft sowie KUG-Rektorin Elisabeth Freismuth, KPH-Rektor Siegfried Barones und die Vizerektorin der Med Uni Graz, Kristina Edlinger-Ploder, die auch die Keynote hielt.

Rektorin Christa Neuper bedankte sich in ihren Eröffnungsworten bei Vizerektorin Renate Dworczak sowie unikid & unicare-Leiterin Julia Spiegl und deren Team für ihr jahrelanges, umfassendes Engagement: "Der Leistungsdruck ist allgemein größer geworden, deshalb ist es umso wichtiger als Universität ein Zeichen zu setzen und zu zeigen, dass gute Vereinbarkeit in allen Lebensbereichen möglich ist." Besonders freue sie sich, so Neuper, dass sie kürzlich den Austria-Award 2014 als "Österreicherin des Jahres" stellvertretend für alle jene Angehörigen der Uni Graz, die sich für Vereinbarkeit einsetzen, entgegennehmen hatte dürfen.

 

Nach der Präsentation der Anlaufstelle sowie einiger best practice-Beispiele schloss die Veranstaltung mit einer Podiumsdiskussion, an der Rektorin Neuper, AKGL-Vorsitzende Katharina Scherke und Psychotherapeut Dr. Erich Lehner unter der Moderation von Karin Bauer ("Der Standard") über das Thema Kulturwandel in Gleichstellung und Vereinbarkeit sprachen.

The University of Graz is further expanding its international study opportunities through the European university alliance Arqus and is taking the lead in two key projects. In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
