The Workshop is organized by the Research Careers Campus in cooperation with the GMZ - Center for Empirical Research, University of Graz.
This course teaches basic concepts of the programming language Python. Topics covered include:
- Why use Python?
- Installation and configuration
- Editors and development environments
- Syntax and structure of Python code
- Conditions
- Loops
- Built-in data types (int, float, list, tuple, dict)
- Importing and exporting text data
- Working with numeric data
- Visualizing data
Students are not expected to be familiar with any programming language, but basic computer skills are helpful. After taking this course, students should be able to
- set up and maintain a Python environment,
- understand and apply basic Python concepts, workflows, and commands,
- and solve simple problems (e.g. create functions, import numerical data, write basic scripts) with Python.
