Admission to study at the University of Graz

Find out how to become a student! On this page, we will lead you through the steps you need to take to enrol at the University of Graz.

Many things influence your path to university - such as what and when you want to study, where you obtained your degree, or what language level you have. We show you the differences.

Deadlines for application

Summer semester 2024  
Bachelor/Diploma studies January 4 to March 20, 2024
Master's programs and doctorates January 4 to April 30, 2024

Please note: The summer semester starts on March 1, 2024. Register as soon as possible to be able to start on this date!

Winter semester 2024/25 presumably from July to September 2024

Please note: The winter semester starts on October 1, 2024. Register from July onwards as soon as possible to be able to start on this date!

Apply early!

As soon as the deadline is open, we look forward to receiving your application. The earlier, the better.

Prepare everything carefully!

You will need various documents during the application process. Find out what documents are required and make sure you've got them all ready.

Ultimate hack: Better scans, better results!

Checking pixelated documents is difficult or almost impossible. Make sure that your scans are of good quality!

Studying at the University of Graz for the first time: Did you get your university entrance qualification in Austria or outside of Austria?

University entrance qualification = Matura, school-leaving examination, university entrance qualification, university degree

University entrance qualification in Austria

With the university entrance qualification in Austria, you automatically prove that you have the necessary language skills in German. This makes it easier to check whether you can study here.

You graduated in Austria but do not have EU/EEA/Swiss citizenship? Then there is a small difference in the application process and a different tuition fee.

Students on campus

What you need to have ready for your application for the Bachelor/Diploma program:

School leaving certificate

All pages of the school leaving certificate and final school report - including timetable!

ID card

Passport or identity card (if neither is available: driver's license plus proof of citizenship)

+ additionally if you transfer from another educational institution to the University of Graz

Proof of matriculation number (e.g. student record sheet, student ID) and certificate of departure (if continuing the same course of study)

The application process: step-by-step guide

Information on the admission procedure

There are study programs that have a limited number of places or require a certain level of knowledge/skills. For these programs, you will need to go through an admission procedure.

→ The admission procedure takes place once a year.
→ It applies for the entire academic year.
→ You must register in advance.
→ In most cases, you will first complete a part online and then write an exam if necessary.
→ After successfully completing the procedure, you can enrol in the winter and summer semesters (within the deadlines).

1 March until 15 May 2024 (noon)

After you have chosen your degree program, you must
>> register for the admission procedure and
>> pass it.
You will then receive a "confirmation of admission". You can then continue with step 2 (create a basic account).
