Zerstörung der Umwelt, Spaltung der Gesellschaft, wachsende Armut: Diese existenziellen Bedrohungen beschäftigen Theolog:innen an der Universität Graz. „Wir sind Anwält:innen für globale Fragen und können mit unserem Wissensschatz zur Bewältigung kollektiver Gefährdungen beitragen“, betont Liturgiewissenschaftler Peter Ebenbauer. Die Befreiungstheologie bringt etwa die Notwendigkeit der sozialen Gerechtigkeit in die Debatten zur Bewältigung der Klimakrise ein.

Lösungen zu aktuellen Herausforderungen suchen die Forscher:innen bei der Tagung „Transforming Theology: Welche Theologie braucht unsere Zeit?“ am 16. und 17. Juni 2023 an der Universität Graz. Referieren werden dort nicht nur Wissenschaftler:innen, sondern auch die Schriftstellerin mit muslimischen Wurzeln Nava Ebrahimi und der Sekretär der Bildungskongregation im Vatikan Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi.

„Unsere Tagung ist bewusst vielseitig und dialogfreudig gestaltet. Außen- und Innenwahrnehmung, universitäre und kirchliche Perspektiven, praktische und systematische Ansätze, etablierte und junge Theolog:innen sollen ins Gespräch gebracht werden. Aus der Diskussion können Prioritäten und innovative Denkansätze gewonnen werden“, beschreibt Ebenbauer. Letztlich geht es auch um eine zeitgemäße Ausformung der Institution Kirche: „Wir fühlen uns dazu verpflichtet, Probleme aufzuspüren, zu benennen und Entwicklungsperspektiven aufzuzeigen.“

Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung wird auch die zehnte Ausgabe der Fakultätszeitschrift LIMNIA präsentiert, die der Liturgiewissenschaftler herausgibt.
