Universitätskurs für eine neue Qualität in der steirischen Politik gestartet

„Die Stärkefelder von Politik, Gesetzgebung und Wissenschaft bündeln und stärker miteinander vernetzen“, beschreibt Landtagspräsident Franz Majcen das Ziel des neuen Universitätskurses „Parlamentarismus und Landespolitik“, der im Rahmen einer Kooperation mit dem Landtag Steiermark von der Karl Franzens Universität Graz und UNI for LIFE eingerichtet und am 4. Oktober 2013 eröffnet wurde. 40 TeilnehmerInnen – darunter Abgeordnete, Bürgermeister und Mitarbeiter aus politischen Büros bzw. der Verwaltung – stellen in zwei Kursgruppen den ersten Jahrgang. „Diese in Österreich einzigartige neue Ausbildung wird maßgeblich zu einer Qualitätssteigerung in der steirischen Politik beitragen. Das große Interesse am Uni-Kurs zeigt auch, wie groß das Engagement der Menschen in der steirischen Politik und Verwaltung ist. Darauf können wir stolz sein“, so Majcen. Durchgeführt wird der Universitätskurs unter der wissenschaftlichen Leitung von Univ. Prof. Dr. Otto Krickl und Ass.Prof. Dr. Klaus Poier.

„Der neue Universitätskurs ist Teil einer umfassenden Kooperation der Universität Graz mit dem Landtag Steiermark. Neben dem österreichweit einzigartigen Weiterbildungsangebot bietet die Plattform öffentliche Diskussionsrunden und Praktika für Studierende. Beide Kooperationspartner lernen bei diesem Austausch. Die Wissenschafterinnen und Wissenschafter erleben, wie die Erkenntnisse in der Praxis umgesetzt werden, die Politikerinnen und Politiker erfahren aktuelle Ergebnisse aus der Forschung“, erklärt Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Polaschek, Vizerektor für Studium und Lehre.

„Etwas mehr Wissenschaftlichkeit würde unserer Politik durchaus gut tun – deshalb freut es mich besonders, dass Landtag und Universität in Zukunft noch intensiver als bisher zusammenarbeiten werden. Die Steiermark wird davon enorm profitieren“, schließt Majcen.

When Federica Caforio talks about the heart, it doesn’t sound like an operating theatre, but rather like equations, parameters and simulations. Yet this is precisely where the medical promise of her research lies: one day, clinical data will be used to create a digital twin of the heart – a virtual model that will enable a better understanding of diseases and allow for more personalised treatment plans. She will be presenting her research at the ‘ECMTB 2026’ mathematics conference.
