On 29 May 2026, it's that time again: the University of Graz celebrates, dances and vibrates. The campus will become a stage for art, science and music.

The first highlights for "Uni Vibes 2026" have already been announced. Among others, the electronic singer-songwriter Fraeulein Astrid will be performing. The artist produces most of her music herself and combines polyphonic vocals, electronic textures and radical honesty to create something both fragile and powerful. Fraeulein Astrid was awarded the Morgenstern Prize of the Province of Styria in 2024, has already performed at Acoustic Lakeside and was the winner of the Generali Music Scholarship in 2025.

MERAK combines contemporary Balkan sounds with hip-hop beats. The energetic eleven-piece acoustic orchestra and a crew of five extraordinary hip-hop dancers invite you to a unique experience in which the audience becomes part of the performance.

Fans of brass music will get their money's worth with Grazissimo Brass Quintett. The five virtuoso brass players from Styria and the surrounding area are versatile, flexible and up for anything.

Further programme items - including musical contributions, scientific impulses and guided tours - are in preparation and will follow in the coming weeks.

A substantial community: the key role of soil crusts in the earth system

They are often overshadowed by the plant world: lichens, fungi, mosses and bacteria, which form unique communities on rocks and trees or as soil crusts. Bettina Weber from the University of Graz is bringing this biological alliance into the research spotlight. Her research shows that these communities form an essential part of the Earth’s critical zone and play a key role in the interactions between land and atmosphere. Bettina Weber was honoured by the European Geosciences Union for her groundbreaking research at the beginning of May.
