By April 1st, the new battery research centre “Battery4Life” opens its doors at the TU Graz. Innovative battery technologies for electric vehicles are the research field of this new COMET-Centre in order to make batteries more efficient and more sustainable. Primary focus is the safe operation to allow long life-cycles both in the vehicle and by second-life applications like stationary use as well.

Beside Graz University of Technology, the University of Graz as well as the Styrian leading companies AVL DiTEST und MAGNA STEYR Fahrzeugtechnik act as shareholders. The COMET-Centre Battery4Life is publicly funded by the Austrian Republic and by the Provinces of Styria and Upper Austria, brings around 25 scientific and industrial partners together and will be able to spend more than 19 million Euro in research for a safe e-mobility future within the next four years.
“A first step has been taken, many yet to come. We are glad to better introduce ourselves to the public having an extensive media event in a few weeks,” announces the appointed CEO Christian Ellersdorfer, Associate Professor at Vehicle Safety Institute of TU Graz.

And climate change is set to make the situation even worse in the coming decades. We asked Johannes Liesche, a professor at the Department of Biology at the University of Graz, how plants react to water shortages and how they survive periods of drought.
