Universität Graz mit dem Gütesiegel „Familie Digital Kompetent“ ausgezeichnet

Mit dem Gütesiegel „Familie Digital Kompetent“ zeichnete Ines Stilling, Bundesministerin für Frauen, Familien und Jugend, heuer erstmals Unternehmen aus, die mit ihren Projekten und Initiativen den verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit digitalen Medien fördern und so die Medienkompetenz von Familien und Jugendlichen stärken. Die Universität Graz war gestern, am 30. Oktober 2019, unter den von einer Fachjury ausgewählten siegreichen Unternehmen. Vizerektor Peter Riedler nahm in Wien die Auszeichnung für die Universität Graz entgegen.

An der Universität Graz sorgt unter anderem die Abteilung unikid & unicare mit ihrem kostenlosen Workshop-Programm für einen generationenübergreifenden Informationsaustausch zu digitalen Medien. Seit fünf Jahren gibt es beispielsweise regelmäßig Veranstaltungen über die Nutzung von Smartphones, Facebook, Instagram und anderen sozialen Medien. Eltern können ihre heranwachsenden Kinder beim Entdecken dieser Medien begleiten und erhalten Tipps von ExpertInnen zur richtigen Handhabe. „Angebote wie die unikid-Info Social Media zielen darauf ab, Medienkompetenzen der heutigen Elterngeneration, die nicht digital native ist, sich aber mit digital native Nachwuchs auseinandersetzen muss, zu erweitern“, so Julia Spiegl, Vereinbarkeitsbeauftragte der Universität Graz. Dazu gehören kritisches Hinterfragen der Inhalte sowie ihrer ethischen, moralischen und sozialen Dimensionen sowie ein Bewusstsein über deren Risiken und Gefahren.  In der Sommer-Kinderbetreuung organisiert unikid & unicare außerdem jeweils eine Woche, die unter dem Titel „Polizei, Gesetz und Recht“ Möglichkeiten und Risiken im Internet thematisiert.

Verschiedene Zielgruppen auf eine lebensnahe Weise zu unterstützen und aktuelle wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse als Basis dafür zu nutzen, ist der Universität Graz ein großes Anliegen. In den vergangenen Jahren wurde sie, unter anderem auch aufgrund vieler verschiedener Initiativen in diesem Bereich, regelmäßig als familienfreundliche Arbeitgeberin ausgezeichnet.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
