Das Webradio startet ins Studienjahr

Die Sommerpause ist vorbei: Mit Montag, 29. September, startet das Webradio der Grazer Universitäten ins neue Studienjahr. In altbewährter Weise werden Studierenden und MitarbeiterInnen der Karl-Franzens-Universität, TU Graz, Med Uni Graz und Kunstuni Graz sowie alle Interessierten über Neues aus der Forschung, dem Bildungsbereich sowie dem alltäglichen Campusleben informiert. Auch aktuelle Fragen werden - wie immer in maximal dreieinhalb Minuten - prägnant beantwortet. Der Kooperationspartner Radio Soundportal ist weiterhin mit an Bord, um die Webradio-Beiträge ans analoge Publikumzu bringen.

 

In der ersten Sendewoche widmet sich das Webradio in seiner Forschungsrubrik dem periodischen Fasten. Dass die regelmäßige Kalorienreduktion das Leben verlängert, weiß man bereits. Aber macht der kontrollierte Essensverzicht auch gesünder? Ein Forschungsteam der Uni Graz untersucht die Anti-Aging-Wirkung des periodischen Fastens.

 

In ein paar Tagen beginnt auch an der Kunstuni Graz wieder die Zeit der Vorlesungen und Übungen. Und dieses Semester wird besonders aufregend: An der Kunstuniversität gibt es nämlich ab heuer acht neue Studiengänge, unter anderem Sound Design und Kammermusik. Wir haben mit dem Leiter des Studiencenters über die Neuerungen gesprochen. 


Seit April 2014 gibt es an der TU Graz ein neue Anlaufstelle für internationale Studierende, MitarbeiterInnen und Gäste: Das Welcome Center der TU Graz bietet individuelle Hilfestellung und Beratung für Neuankömmlinge und mitreisenden Angehörige. Wir haben uns vor Ort über das Angebot informiert.

 

Ein neues, in dieser Form österreichweit einzigartiges Studium sowie eine zentrale Anlaufstelle für organisatorische Angelegenheiten, den so genannten "One Stop Show" - damit wartet die Med Uni Graz zum Semesterstart 2014/2015 auf. Wir haben mit Hans Peter Dimai, dem Vizerektor für Studium und Lehre an der Medizinischen Universität Graz, darüber gesprochen.

How formulas are making medicine more personalised

When Federica Caforio talks about the heart, it doesn’t sound like an operating theatre, but rather like equations, parameters and simulations. Yet this is precisely where the medical promise of her research lies: one day, clinical data will be used to create a digital twin of the heart – a virtual model that will enable a better understanding of diseases and allow for more personalised treatment plans. She will be presenting her research at the ‘ECMTB 2026’ mathematics conference.
