Heute im AirCampus: Molekularbiologe Sandro Keller erforscht die Basis für die Medikamente von morgen

Die Podcast-Plattform der Grazer Universtitäten, der AirCampus, präsentiert jeden Montag vier Wissens-Podcasts, heute zu diesen Themen:

1) Medikamente von morgen: Was macht ein Experte für Membranproteine eigentlich genau und wie hängen diese Biomoleküle mit unseren Medikamenten von morgen zusammen? Das weiß Sandro Keller, der seit Kurzem am Institut für Molekulare Biowissenschaften (IMB) forscht und lehrt.

2) Sonne trifft Strom: Plötzlich ist der Strom weg – warum? Es könnte auch an der Sonne liegen, denn sie beeinflusst das Erdmagnetfeld maßgeblich. Forschende der TU Graz suchen mehrstufigen Lösungen für dieses Problem.

3) Blick ins Blut: Humane Papillomviren (HPV) können nicht nur Gebärmutterhalskrebs auslösen - sie spielen auch für den HNO-Bereich eine immer größere Rolle. ForscherInnen prüfen derzeit die Möglichkeit, mittels Bluttest Kopf-Hals-Tumore früh zu erkennen und zu behandeln.

4) Von Pult und Partitur: Aktuell begrüßt die Kunst Universität Graz mit Claire Levacher eine neue Professorin für Orchesterausbildung. Die französische Dirigentin hat seit ihrem Debüt an der Opéra National de Lyon eine internationale Karriere als Dirigentin verfolgt.

Das Podcast-Projekt der vier Grazer Universitäten versorgt MitarbeiterInnen, Studierende sowie alle Interessierten das ganze Studienjahr über mit wissenswerten Infos aus der Welt der Forschung, aus dem Bildungsbereich und dem Campusleben der Universität Graz, Technischen Universität, Medizinischen Universität und Kunstuniversität.
Früher als "Webradio" bekannt, gibt es auf der Website http://www.aircampus-graz.at auch alle Podcasts, die vor dem 2. Oktober 2017 publiziert wurden, im Archiv zum Nachhören. Uns gibt es übrigens auch auf Spotify und  iTunes!

Die Initiative erhielt 2012 den Inge-Morath-Preis des Landes Steiermark, 2017 den PR-Panther in der Kategorie "Wissenschaft" und 2018 den Green Panther in der Kategorie Online Kommunikation.

The University of Graz is further expanding its international study opportunities through the European university alliance Arqus and is taking the lead in two key projects. In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
