Botanik-Brunch an der Uni Graz am 11. September: Frühstück und Forschung rund um Hülsenfrüchte

Warum kichert die Erbse? Warum sorgt die Bohne für Töne? Und was steckt alles in Linsen? Diese und viele weitere Geheimnisse der Hülsenfrüchte verrät der nächste Botanik-Brunch im Botanischen Garten der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz am Sonntag, den 11. September 2016 von 10 bis 14 Uhr.

Wissenwertes
2016 haben die Vereinten Nationen zum Internationalen Jahr der Hülsenfrüchte ausgerufen. Der Botanische Garten lädt daher ein, diese bedeutende Pflanzenfamilie unter dem Titel „Linsenweisheiten“ kennenzulernen. Beim wissenschaftlich-heiteren Spaziergang zwischen Bohnenstangen im Bauerngarten erfährt man, warum die Bohn“schote“ eigentlich eine Hülse ist, warum die Erbse kichert, wie es zum „Böhnchen-Tönchen“ kommt und warum Linse, Erbse & Co. so beliebt sind.

Kulinarisches
Auch zum Frühstück gibt es Gaumenfreuden aus Hülsenfrüchten: Serviert werden Aufstriche aus Linsen oder Azuki-Bohnen, dazu Tamarinden-Limonade und vieles mehr.

Kinderprogramm
- Ketten und Armbänder aus Bohnen basteln
- Rasseln mit Kichererbsen, kleinen Bohnen und Linsen herstellen
- Hacky Sacks aus Linsen anfertigen und vieles mehr.

Die Veranstaltung findet bei jedem Wetter statt und wird von der Bank Austria unterstützt.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
