AirCampus-Podcast: Welche Substanz verlangsamt das zelluläre Altern?

Die Podcast-Plattform der Grazer Universtitäten, der AirCampus, präsentiert in dieser Woche Wissens-Beiträge zu folgenden Themen: 

1) Gut geschützt: Fasten trägt dazu bei, dass wir länger gesund leben können, weil dieser Prozess die zelluläre Müllabfuhr aktiviert. ForscherInnen haben jetzt entdeckt, dass die Substanz DMC - sie ist z.B. in der Pflanze Ashitaba enthalten - ebenfalls das zelluläre Altern verlangsamt.

2) Bridge the Gap! Informatik ist nur was für Männer? Nicht an der TU Graz! Denn die gezielte Förderung von Mädchen und jungen Frauen soll in Zukunft mehr Studentinnen für technische Studien begeistern.Was das Fach Informatik alles kann, verrät Bernadette Spieler vom Institut für Softwaretechnologie.

3) Leuchtende Hilfe: Schädel-Hirn-Traumata haben oftmals dramatische Auswirkungen auf Betroffene. Behandlungsmöglichkeiten sind rar und stark invasiv. Dank eines Forschungsteams der TU und Med Uni Graz gibt es neues Licht am Ende des Tunnels.

4) 10 Jahre MUMUTH: Schon seit 10 Jahren ertönen feinste Klänge durch das Haus für Musik und Musiktheater der Kunstuni Graz, kurz MUMUTH. Deshalb waren wir vor Ort, um mehr über das architektonisch hervorstechende Veranstaltungsgebäude zu erfahren. Dazu gibt es eine besondere abo@MUMUTH-Kartenaktion für das Sommersemester.

 

Was ist der AirCampus?
Das Podcast-Projekt der vier Grazer Universitäten versorgt MitarbeiterInnen, Studierende sowie alle Interessierten das ganze Studienjahr über mit wissenswerten Infos aus der Welt der Forschung, aus dem Bildungsbereich und dem Campusleben der Karl-Franzens-Universität, Technischen Universität, Medizinischen Universität und Kunstuniversität. Früher als "Webradio" bekannt, gibt es auf der Website http://www.aircampus-graz.at auch alle Podcasts, die vor dem 2. Oktober 2017 publiziert wurden, im Archiv zum Nachhören. Uns gibt es übrigens auch auf Spotify und iTunes!

Die Initiative erhielt 2012 den Inge-Morath-Preis des Landes Steiermark, 2017 den PR-Panther in der Kategorie "Wissenschaft" und 2018 den Green Panther in der Kategorie Online Kommunikation.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
