Konfuzius-Institut Graz fördert mit Video-Clips auf Social Media die Begegnung zwischen Steiermark und China

Wie lebt es sich in der chinesischen Neun-Millionen-Stadt Wenzhou? Und was hat die Steiermark zu bieten? Der chinesische Student Huang Lei und Martina, eine junge Steirerin aus Weiz, haben sich gemeinsam auf die Reise gemacht, um einander ihre Heimat zu zeigen. Mit der Kamera festgehalten, wurden daraus 20 kurze Videos, jeweils auf Deutsch und Chinesisch, die mit Witz und Esprit Einblick in die Kulturen geben. Über Social Media sollen sie die Begegnung und den Austausch zwischen der Steiermark und China fördern. Die Idee dazu hatte Wan Jie Chen, Leiter des Konfuzius-Instituts an der Universität Graz, das am 16. September 2019 anlässlich des chinesischen Mondfestes zur Filmpräsentation lud. Gefördert wird das Projekt vom Land Steiermark, der Stadt Graz und weiteren Partnern.

„Das Konfuzius-Institut ist ein wichtiges Bindeglied zwischen China und der Steiermark. Es überrascht immer wieder mit innovativen Methoden, um uns die chinesische Kultur und Sprache nahezubringen“, unterstrich Vizerektor Martin Polaschek bei der Eröffnung der Veranstaltung in der Aula der Universität Graz.
Landesrätin Barbara Eibinger-Miedl hob in ihren Grußworten die Bedeutung des gegenseitigen Austausches hervor: „Die Steiermark und China verbinden intensive wirtschaftliche Beziehungen, und China zählt zu den wichtigsten steirischen Exportmärkten. In anderen Bereichen, wie etwa dem Tourismus, sehe ich aber großes Potenzial für einen engeren Austausch. Ich danke Wan Jie Chen, der seit vielen Jahren ein großer Brückenbauer zwischen beiden Ländern ist, für die aktuelle Initiative. Die Film-Clips vermitteln auf sehr sympathische und unterhaltsame Weise die Vorzüge und Besonderheiten der Steiermark und Chinas und werden dazu beitragen, dass wir uns wechselseitig besser kennenlernen.“

Die Videos sind gewissermaßen der Kick-off des Projektes „Steiermark trifft China“, das Wan Jie Chen ins Leben gerufen hat. „Ziel ist, Neugier für die jeweils andere Kultur zu wecken sowie die interkulturelle Kompetenz und den Austausch zu fördern“, sagt der Wahlsteirer, für den das Projekt auch eine Herzensangelegenheit ist. Vor 33 Jahren kam er als 23-Jähriger aus Wenzhou nach Österreich, lernte an der Universität Graz seine Frau kennen und hat in Graz seine zweite Heimat gefunden.

Die Filme nehmen nicht nur touristische Attraktionen ins Visier. Sie geben auch Einblicke in Bildung, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft. „Ich möchte den Menschen in China zeigen, wie schön die Steiermark ist und was wir hier zu bieten haben, für BesucherInnen, aber auch für KooperationspartnerInnen auf allen Ebenen“, so Chen.

In China fand die Filmpräsentation bereits statt. „Am 16. August 2019 erfolgte der Start mit einer einstündigen TV-Live-Show. In den folgenden 20 Tagen wurde täglich ein Clip ausgestrahlt“, berichtet Wan Jie Chen. „Insgesamt haben 1,4 Milliarden ChinesInnen über Social Media Zugang zu den Videos“, freut sich der Leiter des Konfuzius-Instituts.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
