Kompetenzzentrum für Biomarkerforschung an der Med Uni Graz

An der Medizinischen Universität Graz wird ein neues K1-Kompetenzzentrum für systematische Biomarkerforschung eingerichtet, welches ab Jänner 2015 interdisziplinär im Bereich der personalisierten Medizin Forschung betreibt. Die Identifikation neuer Biomarker wird unter anderem ein Forschungsauftrag des von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Pieber geleiteten Zentrums sein.
Im Kompetenzzentrum “CBmed – Centre for Biomarker Research in Medicine” positionieren sich unter der wissenschaftlichen Leitung von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Pieber, Med Uni Graz, verschiedene Institutionen an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft.

„BioTechMed-Graz, der Forschungsverbund von Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, TU Graz und Med Uni Graz ist gemeinsam mit der Med Uni Wien, Joanneum Research und dem Austrian Institute of Technology AIT am Kompetenzzentrum beteiligt“, so Thomas Pieber. Ausgehend vom K-Projekt „BioPersMed“ an der Med Uni Graz forschen interdisziplinäre Teams seit 2010 an der Identifikation neuer Biomarker. Primäres Ziel der disziplinenübergreifenden Forschung ist der Fortschritt in der personalisierten Medizin bei der Behandlung von Volkskrankheiten, wie zum Beispiel Diabetes, Osteoporose, Herz- und Lebererkrankungen oder Krebs. Als wissenschaftliche Basis dient den ForscherInnen die Biobank an der Medizinischen Universität Graz, eine der größten Sammlungen biologischer Proben Europas.

„Das neue Kompetenzzentrum ist ein weiteres sichtbares Zeichen für den Erfolg der interuniversitären Forschungskooperation BioTechMed-Graz“, freuen sich die RektorInnen Harald Kainz, Christa Neuper und Josef Smolle unisono.
