Studierende präsentieren reine Fakten und nackte Wahrheiten zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit

Nachhaltig agieren sollten wir alle, und zwar jeden Tag – denn es bedeutet, dass wir heute nicht auf Kosten zukünftiger Generationen leben. Oft klingt das mittlerweile stark gebrauchte Wort „Nachhaltigkeit“ jedoch abgenutzt, und das obwohl längst nicht jede/r weiß, was hinter dem Begriff alles steckt. „Wir wollten auf das Thema aufmerksam machen und gleichzeitig Denkanstöße und Tipps rund um ein nachhaltiges Leben bieten“, sagt Annechien Hoeben von den Sustainers Graz, einem Zusammenschluss von Studierenden des International Joint Master in Sustainable Development an der Universität Graz.

Das Resultat der kreativen Zusammenarbeit: ein Kalender für das neue Jahr, in dem die Studierenden in bekannter Tradition (fast) sämtliche Hüllen fallen gelassen haben. „Mit diesem Kalender möchten wir aber nicht nur Menschen in Graz dazu bewegen, 2021 nachhaltig zu leben. Wir wollen vielmehr auf eine insgesamt nachhaltigere Zukunft hinarbeiten. Denn das Thema geht alle an“, unterstreicht Hoeben.

Ideen für jeden Monat
Viel Arbeit ist in das Projekt geflossen: Jedes Kalenderblatt fokussiert sich auf ein bestimmtes Thema und bietet dazu Infos, Ideen und Tricks für die Gestaltung eines nachhaltigen Lebensstils. Der April ist beispielsweise nachhaltigem Transport gewidmet und im Mai findet man Tipps, um Lebensmittelverschwendung zu vermeiden. Miss August macht auf Verpackungsmüll aufmerksam und Mister November gibt Inspiration, um Pflege- und Haushaltsprodukte selbst zu machen oder Dinge zu reparieren. Für die künstlerische Seite des Projekts zeichnen unter anderem Andres Castiblanco als Fotograf und Nick Tweel (Bearbeitung) verantwortlich.

Gespendeter Erlös
Wo bekommt man nun das gute Stück? Ab 1. Dezember 2020 ist der Kalender im Dekagramm (Joanneumring 16, 8010 Graz) oder bei Apfelbutzn FaireModeGraz (Sackstraße 36, 8010 Graz) zu kaufen, auch online auf https://www.apflbutzn.at. Natürlich ist er auf zertifiziertem Papier gedruckt. Der gesamte Gewinn geht dieses Mal an Nachhaltig in Graz, einem ehrenamtlichen Verein, dessen Ziel es ist, Graz so nachhaltig wie möglich zu gestalten, zum Beispiel über einen “Verschenkeladen”.

Jurassic Sounds: Biologist reconstructs insect songs from 165 million years ago

It was apparently not just the roars of the dinosaurs that made up the soundscape of the animal world during the Jurassic period. Crickets and grasshoppers communicated through a variety of songs and high-pitched sounds, as Thorin Jonsson from the Institute of Biology at the University of Graz discovered together with colleagues from the universities of Lincoln, Bristol (UK), Beijing (China) and Tempe (USA). The findings on what are so far the oldest traces of sound on Earth have just been published in the journal PNAS.
