Start der Veranstaltungsreihe der Steirischen Hochschulkonferenz

Gesundes Altern – das beinhaltet sowohl gesund zu leben als auch gesund zu arbeiten. Mit diesen Themen beschäftigt sich die Steirische Hochschulkonferenz im Jahr 2016. Die Startveranstaltung des Projekts „STAY TUNED – leben, arbeiten, gesund bleiben!“ fand am 17. März 2016 im Audimax an der FH JOANNEUM statt.

Durch Maßnahmen der fünf Universitäten, zwei Fachhochschulen und zwei Pädagogischen Hochschulen in der Steiermark sollen in erster Linie die rund 12.200 MitarbeiterInnen profitieren, aber auch die gesamte steirische Gesellschaft. Workshops, Gespräche und Vorträge zu Themen wie Bewegung, Ernährung oder psychische Gesundheit finden über die Projektdauer von zwei Jahren verteilt statt. Die rund 80 BesucherInnen bekamen bei der Eröffnungsveranstaltung am 17. März 2016 einen ersten Einblick in das Themenfeld und das Projekt.

„Im permanenten Streben nach Qualitätssteigerung gerät der Blick auf die agierenden Menschen, ihre Befindlichkeiten und Bedürfnisse leicht zu kurz. Die Gesundheit und das Wohlbefinden unserer MitarbeiterInnen sind nicht nur die Voraussetzung für gute Arbeitsleistungen, sondern Werte an sich, die es bewusst wahrzunehmen und zu fördern gilt“, so Siegfried Barones, Rektor der Kirchlichen Pädagogischen Hochschule, der ab 1. April 2016 die Leitung der Steirischen Hochschulkonferenz übernimmt.

Auftaktveranstaltung an der FH JOANNEUM
Eröffnet wurde die Veranstaltung von Karl Peter Pfeiffer, dem Rektor der FH JOANNEUM: „Mental und physisch jung und gesund zu bleiben ist eine Herausforderung, der wir uns stellen. Durch unsere Studierenden, Lehrenden und MitarbeiterInnen können wir auch in der Gesundheitsförderung auf ein großes Potenzial an Wissen zurückgreifen, welches wir in dieses gemeinschaftliche Projekt der steirischen Hochschulkonferenz gerne einbringen.“

Nach der Vorstellung des Projekts diskutierten Rainer Christ vom Fonds Gesundes Österreich, Christine Korak von Agil Gesundheitsmanagement, Michael Lehofer vom LKH Graz Süd-West, Rektor der FH JOANNEUM Karl Peter Pfeiffer, Beate Salchinger, Leiterin des Departments für Gesundheitsstudien an der FH JOANNEUM und Christian Schwarz vom Land Steiermark am Podium etwa die Möglichkeiten einer besseren Zusammenarbeit. Auch Trends der Gesellschaft im Bereich Gesundheit, die Verantwortung von Institutionen und das Problem der Altersklischees waren Themen. Geleitet wurde die Diskussion von Heinz M. Fischer, dem Departmentleiter für Medien & Design.

Im Rahmen einer Poster-Präsentation wurden Ideen aus Abschlussarbeiten von Studierenden der Studiengänge „Diätologie“, „Gesundheitsmanagement im Tourismus“ und „Physiotherapie“ der FH JOANNEUM präsentiert.

In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
