Mit dem Best-of-South-East-Programm fördert die Steiermärkische Sparkasse Studierende beim Einstieg ins Arbeitsleben

Ein Praktikum in einem renommierten Unternehmen, internationale Arbeitsluft schnuppern, sich gezielt weiterbilden: Diese Möglichkeiten bietet das Programm Best of South-East der Steiermärkischen Sparkasse in Zusammenarbeit mit der Universität Graz, der TU Graz, der Kunstuniversität sowie der Montanuni Leoben. Leistungsorientierte Studierende aus dem südöstlichen Europa, die dafür ausgewählt werden, erhalten ein umfangreiches Angebot an Aus- und Weiterbildungsmaßnahmen, eingebettet in zahlreiche kulturelle und Networking-Events.

Für das aktuelle Studienjahr wurden insgesamt zwölf StipendiatInnen ausgewählt, sieben von der Universität Graz. Gemeinsam mit dem Vorstandsmitglied der Steiermärkischen Sparkasse Georg Bucher überreichte Rektor Martin Polaschek ihnen kürzlich die Urkunden und hieß sie damit offiziell im Programm willkommen. „Best of South-East ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel für den regionalen Fokus der Universität Graz auf Südosteuropa und die intensive Zusammenarbeit mit den Partnerinstitutionen in der Region“, betont Polaschek. Die AbsolventInnen des vergangenen Jahres blicken in einer Videobotschaft auf das „best year of our lives“ zurück und loben die Chancen der persönlichen, akademischen und beruflichen Weiterentwicklung.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
