AirCampus-Podcast: Was ist die Sprache der Zukunft?

Die Podcast-Plattform der Grazer Universtitäten, der AirCampus, präsentiert in dieser Woche Wissens-Beiträge zu folgenden Themen:

1) Bom dia! Was ist die Sprache der Zukunft? Mandarin, lautet die häufigste Antwort. Doch es gibt noch eine Sprache, die immer mehr an Relevanz gewinnt: Portugiesisch. Warum? Die Antwort darauf gibt es am 4. Juni bei einer kostenlosen Veranstaltung am Grazer Geidorfplatz.

2) Wir bauen eine Stadt! Technik zugänglich und angreifbar zu machen: Das ist das Ziel des Projekts "Maker Days for Kids". Die TU Graz und der gemeinnützige Verein BIMS e.V. bietet Kindern und Jugendlichen im Sommer die Möglichkeit, in einer offenen Werkstatt kreativ zu arbeiten.

3) (K)Ein Ende in Sicht? Rauchfreie Lokale sind in Österreich schon seit längerem ein brisantes Thema. Neue Studien zeigen, dass diese Maßnahme jetzt wichtiger denn je wäre, damit Österreich aktiv seine BürgerInnen schützt: Bis zu 32.000 Krankenhausaufenthalte jährlich könnten damit vermieden werden.

4) Artistic Exchange: “Sonify” (29.-31.5.19) is not your everyday music festival: first of its kind in Austria, it combines concerts, doctoral research presentations and discussions into one four-day long event. We had the chance to talk to the doctoral student and one of its organizers and performers, Roxanne Dykstra.

Was ist der AirCampus?
Das Podcast-Projekt der vier Grazer Universitäten versorgt MitarbeiterInnen, Studierende sowie alle Interessierten das ganze Studienjahr über mit wissenswerten Infos aus der Welt der Forschung, aus dem Bildungsbereich und dem Campusleben der Karl-Franzens-Universität, Technischen Universität, Medizinischen Universität und Kunstuniversität. Früher als "Webradio" bekannt, gibt es auf der Website http://www.aircampus-graz.at auch alle Podcasts, die vor dem 2. Oktober 2017 publiziert wurden, im Archiv zum Nachhören. Uns gibt es übrigens auch auf Spotify und iTunes!

Die Initiative erhielt 2012 den Inge-Morath-Preis des Landes Steiermark, 2017 den PR-Panther in der Kategorie "Wissenschaft" und 2018 den Green Panther in der Kategorie Online Kommunikation.

The University of Graz is further expanding its international study opportunities through the European university alliance Arqus and is taking the lead in two key projects. In future, students will benefit from even more joint degree programmes and from simplified recognition of academic achievements through the Joint European Degree Label.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
