Bildung für alle!

Die Online-Plattform „iMOOX“ ist auf der Suche nach neuen Internet-Vorlesungen

Uni-Vorlesungen online von zuhause aus besuchen? Und das kostenlos 24 Stunden am Tag, sieben Tage die Woche? Was von US-amerikanischen Elite-Universitäten seit langem praktiziert wird, feierte an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz vor kurzem Premiere. Durch sogenannte „Massive Open Online Courses“ – kurz MOOCs – wird universitäres Wissen öffentlich und weltweit verfügbar gemacht. Gemeinsam mit der TU Graz wurde die heimische Plattform „iMooX“ – sprich: i mog‘s – ins Leben gerufen. Die beiden steirischen Universitäten nehmen damit österreichweit auf dem MOOCs-Sektor eine Vorreiterrolle ein. Ihr Motto: „Bildung für alle“. Finanziert wird das Projekt zum Teil vom Zukunftsfonds des Landes Steiermark.

 

Rund 2500 Personen haben sich seit März auf imoox.at registriert; insgesamt 1600 TeilnehmerInnen haben die ersten drei Kurse besucht. Mit 900 Interessierten war der Kurs „Lernen im Netz“ im vergangenen Semester der am besten besuchte. „Gleich 70 Studierende der Uni Graz haben eine Prüfung über den  dargebotenen Stoff absolviert. Das war gleichzeitig der erste MOOC in Öster-reich, der auch eine reale Lehrveranstaltung war“, freut sich Michael Kopp, Leiter der Akademie für Neue Medien und Wissenstransfer. Mit seinem TU-Graz-Kollegen Martin Ebner erarbeitet Kopp laufend MOOCs-Themen. Online-Vorlesungen ersetzen zwar nicht den persönlichen Vortrag im Hörsaal, sie sind aber gerade bei großen Lehrveranstaltungen eine wertvolle Unterstützung. „Manche Themen können sehr gut als MOOC dargestellt werden, viele aber auch nicht“, erklärt der Experte für Neue Medien. Vor allem Lehrveranstaltungen mit immanentem Prüfungscharakter können nicht über das Internet angeboten werden. „Mein Team und ich beraten Lehrende, die mit ihrem Wissen online gehen wollen, vom  Konzept bis zum fertigem MOOC.“ 

 

Was iMOOX von anderen Anbietern von Massive Open Online Courses unterscheidet, ist, dass sämtliche Materialien unter einer Creative Commons-Lizenz stehen. „Das sind offene Bildungsressourcen, die von allen NutzerInnen weltweit wiederverwendbar und in den meisten Fällen auch adaptierbar sind“, sagt Kopp. Das bedeutet, dass zum Beispiel Physik-LehrerInnen in Schulen Videoaufnahmen von Laborexperimenten oder Unterlagen bedenkenlos zeigen und weitergeben können. „Bei der Erstellung eines MOOC überprüfen wir gemeinsam mit dem Vortragenden, ob sich die Dokumente für eine Weitergabe unter der Creative Commons-Lizenz eignen.“ Mit Semesterbeginn sind gleich sieben neue Online-Kurse gestartet Darunter auch „Englisch für Chemiestudierende“, das als Tutorium konzipiert im Rahmen von NAWI Graz in Kooperation mit der TU angeboten wird.

A new academic year, new degree programmes, new students. The University of Graz is kicking off the 2026 winter semester with a modern range of courses. Several new programmes are being launched this year, including the Bachelor’s degree in Early Years Education, which combines vocational training with academic research. Three newly designed degree programmes in art history offer contemporary perspectives on artistic production – from the Old Masters to AI art. First-year students in particular can immerse themselves in university life and gather all the essential information even before the semester begins: during the Welcome Weeks starting on 1 September.

Hot and hotter: Weather station records record-breaking summer temperatures

It has been an exceptionally hot summer so far. The meteorological station at the University of Graz has also reported record temperatures. Unprecedented in the history of weather records dating back to 1894: 44 days above 30 degrees within a single year, six of which were above 35 degrees!
