UniGraz@Museum zeigt ab Freitag echtes Meteoritengestein

Er kommt: Komet "Ison" oder auch C/2012 S1 genannt wird morgen Donnerstag, 28. November 2013, unserer Sonne so nah wie noch nie sein. Ungefähr 1,8 Millionen Kilometer werden den Himmelskörper dann von ihr trennen; die ganze Weltraumforschung wartet auf dieses Spektakel im All.

Chondrit und mehr
Ganz im Zeichen von "Kometen" steht derzeit auch die Sonderausstellung im UniGraz@Museum, die noch bis Ende Jänner 2014 läuft. Kustos Mag. Franz Stangl ist es gelungen, echtes Meteoritengestein von den steirischen Meteoritensammlern Ing. Stefan Brandes und Klaus Tschernschitz für die Austellung zu organisieren. Prunkstück der Kleinen Sammlung ist ein rund drei Kilo schwerer "Chondrit". Dieser Meteorit ist im Flug zerbrochen und hat eine sekundäre Schmelzkruste an seiner Oberfläche ausgebildet. Gefunden wurde dieser Steinmeteorit in Nordwestafrika. "Darüber hinaus zeigen wir aber auch typische Eisenmeteorite und das faszinierende Wüstenglas, welches beim Einschlag eines Kometen vor rund 28 Millionen Jahren in der Sahara entstanden ist", erklärt Stangl.

Around the world in eight stops: the Long Night of Research at the University of Graz
