ExpertInnen aus Wissenschaft und Praxis diskutierten aktuelle Herausforderungen

Das Institut für Banken und Finanzierung lud am 27. und 28. November 2015 zum 30. Workshop der Austrian Working Group on Banking and Finance. Institutsleiter O.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Peter Steiner konnte gemeinsam mit den Organisatoren Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Roland Mestel und Assoz. Prof. Dr. Stefan Palan sowohl den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs als auch arrivierte ForscherInnen aus der Finance-Community begrüßen.
Ziel der Working Group, die Ende der 1980er-Jahre von Peter Steiner und Prof. Helmut Uhlir als österreichweite Plattform gegründet wurde, ist es, Wissenschaft und Praxis miteinander zu verknüpfen. Dementsprechend fanden sich im  Publikum auch zahlreiche BranchenvertreterInnen.

Neben insgesamt 14 Präsentationen aktueller Forschungsarbeiten – unter anderem zu den Themenbereichen empirische und experimentelle Kapitalmarktforschung, Kreditrisikomanagement und Bankenregulierung – fand eine hochkarätig besetzte Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema „Wie viel Wissenschaft braucht das Bankwesen von morgen?“ statt.
Unter der Leitung von Peter Steiner diskutierten Prof. Dr. Michael Hanke (Universität Liechtenstein), Doz. DDr. Peter Ladreiter (Vorstand Security KAG), Prof. (FH) Mag. Otto Lucius (Geschäftsführer a.D., Österreichische Bankwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft – BWG) und MMag. Martin Schaller (Generaldirektor, Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark) gegenwärtige und künftige Herausforderungen wie Chancen des Bankwesens und die diesbezügliche Rolle und Bedeutung wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse.

The Nazi elite school Napola: Historian seeks memories and personal documents

They were to be brought up to become the future elite of National Socialism: boys and girls aged ten and over who, following the ‘Anschluss’ of Austria to the German Reich, attended a so-called Napola (short for Nationalpolitische Lehranstalt; also known as NPEA, Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalt). There were nine such institutions in what is now Austria between 1939 and 1945.
