Alumni-Hörsaal in der Universitätsbibliothek eröffnet

Gemeinsam mit der neuen Universitätsbibliothek wurde auch der neue Alumni-Hörsaal aus der Taufe gehoben: Über 200 StifterInnen und Ehrengäste nahmen am 26. September 2019 auf den von ihnen gestifteten Sesseln Platz. Darunter auch prominente Gäste wie Landeshauptmann a.D. Waltraud Klasnic, Rudi Roth, Alfred Stingl und Waltraud Schinko-Neuroth.

Im Rahmen einer einzigartigen Fundraising-Kampagne konnten zwischen September 2015 und Oktober 2016 analog zur mehr als 430-jährigen Universitätsgeschichte AbsolventInnen sowie FreundInnen der Universität Graz Sessel für den Hörsaal stiften. Unter anderem sammelte Wecker-Moderator Robert Kratky in der Ö3-Community Vorschläge für den Spruch auf seinem Sessel. Unter den weiteren StifterInnen sind bekannte AbsolventInnen, wie Schlager-Star Monika Martin und ORF-Moderatorin Claudia Reiterer. Auch der frühere Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer hat einen Platz erworben.

Bei der Eröffnung nahmen Rektorin Christa Neuper und Vizerektor Peter Riedler in ihren Grußworten Bezug auf die Wichtigkeit der AbsolventInnen für die Universität Graz. Univ.-Prof. Helmut Konrad, einst Rektor der Uni Graz, sprach in der anschließenden „Eröffnungsvorlesung“ zur Geschichte von Bibliotheken und der nach wie vor unersetzlichen Bedeutung von Büchern an Universitäten. Überraschende künstlerische Interventionen setzte die Willi Dorner Cie mit der Performance „Bodies in Urban Spaces“.

Around the world in eight stops: the Long Night of Research at the University of Graz

On 24 April from 5 pm, you can take a short trip around the globe at the University of Graz, discovering pecularities of foreign countries or new local features in the entrance hall of the University Library. The itinerary takes you through introduced animal species, political attitudes and the omnipotence of algorithms. There will also be a programme in the historic reading hall, as well as at the UniGraz@Museum and the University Archive.
