Vor genau 75 Jahren wurde er geschmäht, geächtet und entehrt: Der letzte Rabbiner der Steiermark, David Herzog, hat mit der Niederschrift seiner persönlichen Erinnerungen ein sowohl erschütterndes als auch einzigartiges Erbe und historisches Zeitdokument hinterlassen. Unmittelbar nach seiner Vertreibung aus Graz Ende 1938 begann der Religionslehrer, Universitätsprofessor und einstige Ehrenbürger der Stadt mit seinen Aufzeichnungen.

Als 70-Jähriger blickte er aus dem englischen Exil auf die Jahre der Radikalisierung des politischen Klimas in seiner ehemaligen Heimat vor dem Anschluss sowie den Terror, der ihm sowie vielen anderen Grazer Jüdinnen und Juden entgegenschlug.
